Wikipedia for Peace is a project that brings together peace activism with Wikipedia! We try to improve the content on peace and justice-related topics on Wikipedia – and at the same time increase the interest on peace and social movements within our communities. SCI Austria and Wikimedia Austria have organized two international “Wikipedia for Peace” camps in 2015 and 2016 (see here). This training/seminar will motivate engaged people from all around Europe (and beyond) to start up “Wikipedia for Peace” projects, sharing the experiences we already have and coming up with new ideas. At the same time, we want to turn the project into a movement within Service Civil International (SCI) and Wikimedia, starting an online and offline community that is engaged with peace.

In 2017 we want to support initiatives and people from other countries who are interested in starting up a “Wikipedia for Peace” project. So we decided to organise this training in Vienna in March 2017. This training and its preparation will motivate engaged people to start up such a project (When? Where? With whom? On what?) and introduce the experiences the Austrian organisers have made from the first two years. The training will also discuss how to improve these experiences. At the same time the training is supposed to be the kick-of of a bigger movement of bringing peace activism and Wikipedia closer together, e.g. including photography tours for Wikipedia in existing SCI projects. We will also discuss how we can present all Wikipedia for Peace camps together to the public.

The training will not be based on formal PowerPoint presentations teaching you how to do things, but will use largely on discussion and non-formal learning.
