What is an LTV?

Would you like to go to another country, even another continent, as more than just a tourist?

Long Term Volunteering with SCI gives you the opportunity to live abroad for between 3 and 12 months, working on a project in cooperation with an SCI branch and/or partner in the host country. The LTV programme offers you the possibility of getting to know another country and its people in a different way. You can support a local project through your volunteer service at the same time as living alongside people from other cultures.

LTV stands for “Long Term Volunteering” and is a long term programme running internally within the network of SCI branches. The volunteer collaborates with a host branch of SCI or partner association of a branch for a period of between 3 months and 1 year. Projects run all year and the volunteer works 30 – 40 hours a week.

Although the same values of volunteering are promoted as in short term work camps, the volunteer has a very different experience – more intense and more profound. The fact that the volunteer is able to spend a much longer period working on a project allows them to adapt to the host culture and both bring to and gain more from the experience. LTV is also different from work camps in that the volunteer works on more permanent than temporary projects.
