What is an EVS?

A European Voluntary Service (EVS) or Servicio de Voluntariado Europeo (SVE) is an international voluntary project of mid-length or long duration funded by the Youth in Action programme of the European Commission.

The project is undertaken in a different country from the participant’s country of residence, is not-for-profit and is unpaid, gives a service to the local community and forms an important personal experience for the volunteer. The project can be in the field of the environment, art and culture, work with children, sport, young people or elderly people etc. and is normally between 6 and 12 months.

Each project consists of 3 partners: the volunteers, a hosting organization and a sending organization. SCI Catalonia acts as a sending organization as long as the volunteer is resident in Catalonia, the region of Valencia or the Balearic Islands. If you live anywhere else in Spain, please contact SCI Madrid.

You can find more information at the Dirección General de Juventud (Generalitat de Catalunya) or from the Youth in Action programme. If you still have questions, we would recommend you to come to one of our EVS/LTV talks (. You can also get in touch to arrange a meeting at the SCI office by sending an email to longterm@sci-cat.org.
